Vision of Love

I've recently become kind of obsessed with reading famous people's Twitter feeds. I'm freaked out by the concept behind the phenomenon, and I don't think I could ever tweet myself, but it seems like the perfect outlet for someone who is completely narcissistic and of the belief that everyone cares what they're thinking or doing from moment to moment (i.e. all celebrities). So I checked out Mariah Carey's twitter for the first time today, and this tweet from last week caught my eye. Perhaps Mimi and I have more in common than a weakness for nervous breakdowns and popsicles?

Kindred Spirits

Woody Harrelson was recently involved in (another) scuffle with a paparazzo at the aeropuerto in NYC. Yesterday, he issued a statement explaining his behavior:

I wrapped a movie called `Zombieland,' in which I was constantly under assault by zombies, then flew to New York, still very much in character. With my daughter at the airport I was startled by a paparazzo who I quite understandably mistook for a zombie.

Yes. Perfect. No better explanation. Seriously, there is many a day when I go out in public and the only way to explain my crazy aversion to other people is that I mistake them for zombies. Thanks, Woody.

Hey Girl Hey (the little green book!)

Clearly the A&P staff believe whole-heartedly (look at all of these bold adverbs!) in the decriminalization and eventual legalization of marijuana. For instance, we've been expressing some chagrin (see below) over the recent Phelps bong scandale. But why ceaselessly kvetch, when we could start taking action?! I think that it's time to push (forgive pun) a little book called, It's Just a Plant. If we could get a copy into the hands of every legislator, these would be some changin' times! Who's with me?

My stars, Josh Schwartz must write Gossip Girl with the sole intention of feeding Gawker's Richard Lawson (pop critical genius--see his plaintive Hills posts--and all around sugar plum fairy) with material for his apt, fecund weekly "recap." There's really no need to watch the actual program (it's pretty tepid stuff).

Love in this Club (long hair or short, yesterday, today and tomorrow)

Surprisingly, we at A&P have yet to discuss the groundbreaking decriminalization of marijuana passed in (count 'em!) three states on Tuesday. I don't know how Jason Mewes feels about tea-smoking now that he's blessedly kicked his heroin habit, but he will always be our favorite fictive dealer of the stuff. And he had this to say in 1999 (oh, what a year): "I think it should definitely be legalized. Like they say, if anything it should be more legal than booze because people get drunk, they drink and drive, they crash and kill people. And when you get drunk you get a little rowdy and shit. And you get stupid and have unprotected sex. Weed, you know, you just get mellow. You can drive pretty stoned and be OK. I mean, sometimes you get too stoned and you can't drive. But you could get pretty stoned and still drive. And you don't get all stupid and sleep with someone. You're so stoned most of the time that you don't want to sleep with someone. So, that's that. And a lot of people get shot and shit during fucking drug deals -- the cops busting and raiding and stuff. So, I think they should legalize it."
