Funny Page for Wednesday

This is one of my all-time favorite strips of Watterson's probably because it's the best example of his literal outside the box approach to comic strips. Nobody's packed a strip with as much action and emotion since.

Let the Wild Rumpus Start!

I hear tell that Spike Jonze is deep in a live-action adaptation of Maurice Sendak's 1963 children's book Where the Wild Things Are. I was obsessed with this book as a child. It struck me with both fear and awe, a combination of sentiments that I am still fond of as a grown up. I was always moved by stories that involved suddenly stumbling into alternate realities; and, as such, I also went nutty over C.S. Lewis' Chronicles of Narnia series and Madeleine L'Engle's Time Quartet series. I'm also still a fan of stumbling into alternate realities, which perhaps I'll do before I go see this film. Don't fuck it up, Spike!

Hey Girl Hey (the little green book!)

Clearly the A&P staff believe whole-heartedly (look at all of these bold adverbs!) in the decriminalization and eventual legalization of marijuana. For instance, we've been expressing some chagrin (see below) over the recent Phelps bong scandale. But why ceaselessly kvetch, when we could start taking action?! I think that it's time to push (forgive pun) a little book called, It's Just a Plant. If we could get a copy into the hands of every legislator, these would be some changin' times! Who's with me?
